Reinforcing this message is an equally significant subtitle: \u201cThe goal is right: the path is built together.\u201d A clear call to work as a team to tackle the major challenges facing the leather supply chain\u2014from regulations to compliance, from sustainability to new prospects for the tanning industry.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image _fit-frame-height-to-content _right\" data-tap-fullscreen=\"\" data-component-id=\"doc-1jtici3au0\">\n<div doc-image=\"image\" doc-link=\"hyperlink\" style=\"display: block; height: 0px; overflow: hidden; padding-bottom: 123.993%; background-image: url('https:\/\/arsutoriastudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/140984-140980.jpeg'); background-position: 50% 50%;\"><\/div><figcaption doc-editable=\"caption\">Tomaso Pellegrini, president of AICC<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"text body\" doc-editable=\"text\" data-component-id=\"doc-1jtici0bj1\">The proceedings were opened by the new AICC president, <b>Tomaso Pellegrini<\/b>, who, after thanking his predecessors, reiterated a concept that would serve as the central theme of the entire day: \u201cTogether, by supporting one another, we can build the future. Let\u2019s also try to address problems from different perspectives.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image _fit-frame-height-to-content _right\" data-tap-fullscreen=\"\" data-component-id=\"doc-1jticj3of0\">\n<div doc-image=\"image\" doc-link=\"hyperlink\" style=\"display: block; height: 0px; overflow: hidden; padding-bottom: 75%; background-image: url('https:\/\/arsutoriastudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/140984-140979.jpeg'); background-position: 50% 50%;\"><\/div><figcaption doc-editable=\"caption\">Dario Nardella,&nbsp;Member of the European Parliament<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"text body\" doc-editable=\"text\" data-component-id=\"doc-1jticj10e1\">Among the most anticipated speeches was that of Member of the European Parliament <b>Dario Nardella,<\/b> who has long been supportive of the sector\u2019s concerns and is known for his commitment to excluding leather from the EUDR regulation. \u201cParochialism is anachronistic and harmful,\u201d he stated, once again emphasizing the value of collaboration among stakeholders in the supply chain. Nardella then updated those present on the ongoing debate in Brussels regarding some of the most sensitive issues for the sector, including restrictions on polymers, PFAS, and bisphenols. \u201cWe are working to ensure that decisions on these matters are based on sound and accurate scientific data,\u201d he explained. The Member of the European Parliament also returned to the topic of the EUDR, emphasizing that \u201cwhen the sector presents a united front, results follow,\u201d and finally announced the launch of a cross-party working group in the European Parliament dedicated to revitalizing the fashion and textile sector.<br data-newline=\"\">The presentations titled \u201cDriving Change: The Tanning Sector\u2019s Proactive Approach,\u201d delivered by <b>Giulia Martin and Marta Montanari <\/b>of UNIC \u2013 Concerie Italiane, explored, on the one hand, the latest technical updates regarding the EUDR and, on the other, the challenges related to environmental regulations posed by rules such as Ecodesign and the Digital Product Passport.<br data-newline=\"\"><b>Tiziana Gambicorti<\/b>, head of AICC Tuscany and chair of CEN\/TC 289 and IUC, presented a report focused on \u201cNew Analytical Methods for Tanning: The Case of Fluorine and Beyond\u201d and reported on the work currently underway in technical working groups to develop and validate analytical methods that are still lacking, such as the method for total fluorine.<br data-newline=\"\">In his remarks, <b>Federico Brugnoli<\/b>, CEO of Spin360, explained the importance of the new \u201cGuidelines\u201d for measuring the environmental footprint of leather, recently published by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), which establish a fundamental principle: that leather is an animal byproduct that is \u201cnon-determinative\u201d for environmental change. Developed with technical support from SPIN 360, the UNIDO recommendations represent a major step forward in the proper recognition of leather as a circular material.<br data-newline=\"\">The floor was then given to <b>Alberto De Conti<\/b>, Sector Lead \u2013 Formulators at ZDHC, who outlined the latest developments in the Chemicals to Zero (CTZ) initiative, which this year introduced an additional level of chemical compliance\u2014called \u201cAspirational\u201d \u2014following the \u201cProgressive\u201d level, which had been the highest to date. \u201cIt represents an opportunity,\u201d explained De Conti, \u201cto further differentiate oneself in the market by transforming technical effort into reputation.\u201d<br data-newline=\"\"><b>Sabrina Frontini<\/b>, director of ICEC, outlined the changes introduced by the new European directives and the challenges the sector faces in balancing the needs of the leather supply chain. She described the current context as \u201ca perfect storm\u201d for companies in the sector, inviting them to view the Italian Certification Institute as \u201ca beacon and a shield\u201d during this phase of transformation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text body\" doc-editable=\"text\" data-component-id=\"doc-1jticrrr71\"><b>Cecilia Polizzi<\/b>, a professor at the University of Florence, concluded the series of presentations by discussing \u201cNetworking on Water Treatment\u201d and highlighting the importance of the Meta project, which has unfortunately been hampered by a lack of funding.<br data-newline=\"\">The event concluded with a roundtable discussion on the central theme of the event, \u201cBeyond Silo Thinking: When the Supply Chain Networks,\u201d moderated by journalist and founder of Solo Moda Sostenibile, <b>Silvia Gambi<\/b>.
